It was the 7th of September, the feeling was ecstatic. My heart cannot contain the unexplainable joy and excitement. I knew something’s bound to happen.
As we walked the pavements of the venue, there was a thrilling air that continues to brush my cheeks. It was my first time. First time to join that event, and no words can describe the anticipation that’s burning inside me. It only comes once in a year, I think I’m coming closer.
The crowds were coming in, you can already hear the fun-filled noise that paints a smile on their faces. The scene was simply breath-taking. How can a celebration for just one lady gather all these people, and brought happiness to their hearts? I have to know who she is.
It rained and there were some people who fainted because of the hot-condition of the area. But it didn’t stopped them.
Songs and dances by her ‘proclaimed’ children were shown to us with such grace and passion. Long prayers, reflections and meditations were offered. It was all new to me. Should I turn myself into a religious one, just to understand all of these things?
Then, I saw her- A figure of a beautiful lady dressed up in white robe and wearing a golden crown, with twelve stars surrounding it. A shining entity appeared before me. She was Mary, the mother of Jesus who saved the world with his own life. How important is this being? As important as any mother in the entire world.
Now I understand. The event entitled, “Marian Vigil 2016” and with the theme: “Children of Mary, Children of Mercy,” encourages us to be like Mary. To be kind, helpful and merciful at all times. She teaches us to believe in God’s will and to always hope and pray for the better. I want to be like her.
After all the countdown, veneration, and closing mass, I have realized a lot. How I have become distant to God and to her, and how we have forgotten to apply the values she taught us. Models should not be all sexy and beautiful, but can also be a woman with an emanating beauty and kindness. She is blessed and pure. She is the type of person, people should look up to at these times of distress.
As I go back home, I am proud of myself. Proud that I have learned something, and I know that I am a step closer to her. Though I can’t see her, she will always be in my heart up to eternity, for I know now who she is- Mother of Jesus, Mother of all and my own Mother.
